MHSEF Team Mission Statements
Mt. Hood Ski Education Foundation
The Foundation's mission is to provide and promote excellent ski training programs, competitions, and a specially designed school for competitive youth skiers, and to sponsor programs that foster self-confidence, respect for others, a knowledge and appreciation of physical and mental well being, and an ongoing desire for growth.
Mt. Hood Academy
The Mt. Hood Academy's mission is to help students gain the ability and the desire to establish and achieve personally-appropriate goals in education and athletics, to be applied to their future lives in our diverse society.
The goal of Mt. Hood Academy is to provide an environment which fosters learning and preparation for student-athletes aspiring toward personal excellence in both intellectual and physical pursuits, and to encourage the extension of individual goals whenever appropriate.
Mt. Hood Race Team
The Mt. Hood Race Team, comprised of Mitey Mite racers, is a program that focuses on athlete development, providing a solid foundation of skiing skills and racing fundamentals. Mitey Mite racing is not the "end-result," but the foundation of a young athlete's development and progress toward higher levels of competition.
Mt. Hood Race Team is guided by three basic fundamentals, each one essential to the success of the next.
- Having fun: promote a joy for, and a love of, alpine skiing by providing an exciting, fun athletic experience for young people, while promoting an enjoyable, healthy winter experience for the entire family.
- Learning to ski: develop sound skiing skills and fundamentals by providing age-appropriate instruction and exercises; create all-mountain skiers by challenging participants with different types of terrain and snow conditions; and, educate young skiers in mountain etiquette, mountain safety, and respect for winter elements and conditions.
- Learning to race: provide a competitive training and racing environment that encourages young ski racers to push their comfort zones and strive for higher levels of performance; educate young ski racers on appropriate race course tactics; encourage young skiers to set appropriate personal goals, and to celebrate all successes - both large and small; and finally, promote a sense of good sportsmanship, unselfish behavior and cooperation among teammates and peers.
